The American Council for Judaism last night urged the United States to accept “its share” of Jewish refugees from Egypt “in accord with the American principle of assisting victims of political oppression. The resolution on refugees was adopted at the closing session of the organization’s 13th annual conference here.
Another resolution condemned the United States agreement with Saudi Arabia by which American Jewish military personnel are barred from the American airbase at Dhahran. The resolution said that it had always opposed any idea that Americans of Jewish faith owed national obligations to Israel and “we therefore now object with equal emphasis when the Government of the United States acquiesces to a confusion of our faith and national rights on the part of Saudi Arabia.”
In another resolution, delegates expressed the hope that the citizens of Israel “will develop a stable, peaceful and prosperous society” and urged support for needy coreligionists in Israel “without subsidizing the political program of Zionism. ” The delegates also declared that “a just peace between Israel and her Arab neighbors is essential to world peace.”
