$700,000 Raised for U.J.A. at Dinner Honoring Ort Leaders

More than $700,000 was raised for the United Jewish Appeal at a dinner here arranged by the ORT in honor of George J. Minzer and Isaac Siegmeister, impartial chairmen between labor and management in a number of industrial. More than 600 guests attended the dinner. The two guests of honor were presented with illuminated scrolls and with tapestries from Israel woven by Iraqi students at the ORT carpet-weaving school in Tel Aviv.

Dr. William Haber, president of ORT, told of its work of training tens of thousand of handicapped, disabled, disoriented, homeless and skilless Jewish refugees and immigrants for constructive and worthwhile careers in industry and in their new communities and called attention to the increasing need for such re-training in view of today’s refuge situation. Abraham Hyman, assistant executive vice president of the national United Jewish Appeal, presented the case for maximum participation in UJA’s 1957 rescue and relief campaign and special $100,000,000 Emergency Rescue Fund.
