A five-year $3, 000, 000 development plan for Bar-Ilan University, the American-sponsored institution of higher learning in Israel, was announced today by Robert Dolins, executive director of the American Committee for Bar-Ilan University. The development program, to be completed by October, 1962, will provide facilities for 1, 000 undergraduate and graduate students in the liberal arts and sciences on a 40-acre campus in Ramat Gan, a suburb of Tel Aviv.
Originally launched by the American Mizrachi movement, Bar-Ilan University now functions as an independent institution drawing support from all sections of the American community. It was opened in September, 1955 with an organization, physical plant, program and curriculum planned by American academic personnel. President of the University is Dr. Pinkhas Churgin, who served formerly as Dean of the Teachers Institute of Yeshiva University in New York City.
