Israel Ambassador to the United States Abba Eban paid tribute yesterday to William Randolph Hearst Jr., editor-in-chief of the Hearst Newspapers, for the “understanding and warm friendship” he has given to Israel. The Ambassador was the principal speaker at a reception given to Mr. Hearst at the Commodore Hotel honoring him for his “interest and assistance” to the youth of Israel. He was specifically cited for his assistance to the cross-continent tour last February of the Israel Olympic basketball team.

A personal scroll from Israel’s Prime Minister David Ben Gurion was presented to Mr. Hearst by Ambassador Eban. It read: “Presented to William Randolph Hearst Jr., great American –humanitarian and distinguished newspaperman in recognition of his keen interest in the youth of Israel.”
