Canadian Jewish Congress Seeks Property Protection for Egyptian Jews

The Canadian Jewish Congress has called on the Dominion Government to intervene with the United Nations High Commissioner to protect the property rights of Egyptian Jews exiled or fleeing from that country, the CJC announced here today.

In a memorandum to Lester B. Pearson, Minister for External Affairs, the Congress cited the High Commissioner’s assumption of jurisdiction over Egyptian Jews who had no nationality or had been stripped of it by the Nasser regime. It further spelled out the High Commissioner’s rights and duties in relation to protecting the property rights of refugees within his jurisdiction.
