Plans “relating to the future relationship and cooperative action” between the World Jewish Congress and organized Hungarian Jewry were discussed here this week-end at a conference between Congress and ranking representatives of the Central Board of Hungarian Jewry.
Announcement of the conference was made here by WJC leaders today. It was the first time that representatives of a Communist country met officially with WJC leaders outside the Iron Curtain.
Dr. Nahum Goldmann, president of WJC, and Dr. Israel Goldstein, president of the American Jewish Congress, headed the WJC delegation. Representing Hungarian Jewry were Andreas Sos, president of the Hungarian Jewish community; Miklos Zida, vice president; and Hungary’s Chief Rabbi, Dr. Imre Benoschovsky.
Plans for increasing contact between Hungarian Jewry and the WJC, previously approved by the World Congress Coordinating Committee, were laid before the Hungarian delegation and discussed at the conference, which lasted two days. The Hungarian leaders will submit the plans to the Central Board of Hungarian Jewry, in Budapest.
