Egyptian Foreign Minister Mahmoud Fawzi today told the National Assembly in Cairo that United Nations troops will leave the Gaza Strip and Sinai as soon as Egypt decides they are no longer needed.

(At the United Nations, Secretary General Dag Hammarskjold hinted in his annual report he had not dropped the idea of placing UN troops on Israel’s side of the border. He asserted that the “presence of United Nations Emergency Force is incomplete though its present deployment and other arrangements may be an important element.”)
