Declaring that Israel’s policy is always “unalterably opposed to any system of racial discrimination wherever practiced, ” the Israel delegation here today asked the Trusteeship Committee of the General Assembly to adopt a moderate attitude toward the Union of South Africa which has refused to place South West Africa under UN trusteeship.

The Union of South Africa which administers the territory has been accused by some delegations of “flagrant disregard” of the wishes of members of the United Nations and of the International Court of Justice. Aryeh Eilan, Israel’s delegate on the Trusteeship Committee, asked the group at its session today to consider various diplomatic approaches rather than punitive action in regard to the Union of South Africa.
