Israeli Ambassador Abba Eban was optimistic today of Israel’s chances of obtaining increased U.S. aid, after conferring with C. Douglas Dillon, Deputy Under Secretary of State for Economic Affairs.
“We hope with a certain degree of confidence that the total volume of aid will be greater than last year, ” Mr. Eban said. He indicated that today’s meeting developed into a “general and useful review of all elements of American-Israel economic cooperation. ” It is understood that Israel may receive a considerable increase in U.S. surplus agricultural commodities.
The Export-Import Bank is continuing study of Israel’s application for a $75,000, 000 loan for irrigation development.
