Less than 2,000 of the 18,200 Hungarian Jews who fled in last year’s revolution remain in Austria, it was reported here today. The remaining Hungarian Jewish refugees are housed in two government camps under all-Jewish operation for which the JDC provides counselors and supplementary services.

In Camp Asten near Linz, 450 Orthodox Jews are now sheltered, With the cooperation of the United States escapee program and the Austrian Government, the JDC installed in the camp a synagogue, school, and religious immersion facilities. There is also a JDC kosher feeding center in Vienna where 250 meals are served daily to the refugees from Hungary and other Iron Curtain countries.
