Considerable deposits of aluminum-bearing ores have been discovered in the Negev, including an estimated one million tons of flint with a 45 percent concentration of the light metal, Prof. M. Ben Dor, head of a government geological survey of the desert region, reported today.

Aluminum-bearing flint is in great demand in the world market, Prof. Ben Dor explained, because it is highly heat resistant and is used to line furnaces. He also revealed that the Negev contains auxite, an ore with a more than 50 percent aluminum content, from which pure aluminum is obtained commercially.
