An international Association of Jewish Music was established at the first International Congress of Jewish Music which closed here last night with a gala concert featuring the works of some of the best known Jewish composers alive today.
The Association will have three centers: one in Israel, a second in the United States and a third in Europe. Prof. Kurt Sachs of New York was named president. The congress was held under the sponsorship of the World Jewish Congress.
The aims of the new association include: preservation of the Jewish musical her page the study and spreading of genuine Jewish music throughout the world, publication of a periodical devoted to Jewish music and the creation of a code of authentic traditional Jewish music. It also hopes to set up a library of Jewish music.
It was noted at the congress in connection with the preservation of Jewish music that the virtual destruction of European Jewry and the emigration of entire communities from the Arab lands had threatened the extinction the Jewish music developed in those lands.
The Archive of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency includes articles published from 1923 to 2008. Archive stories reflect the journalistic standards and practices of the time they were published.
