The United States today made an additional contribution of $1,500,000 to the program for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine refugees. Today’s pledge brings the total American contribution to UNRWA work for the fiscal year ending June 30 to $23, 000, 000. The contribution was announced in the General Assembly’s special political committee by Genoa S. Washington the American representative on that committee.
Last night at a debate in the committee on UNRWA, Brian C Hill of Australia. lately insisted that it would be “completely unrealistic” to expect Israel to repatriate 900, 000 refugees since Israel “has the right to exist as an independent state and right to inoability of its sovereignty.” The situation of the refugees is of great concern to Australia which is friendly to both Israel and the Arab countries, he said.
