Mayor Robert Wagner of New York announced last night that he may revisit Israel. He spoke at the Maccabean festival dinner of the Jewish National Fund. He told the 750 persons at the celebration that on an earlier visit to Israel he was “greatly impressed” by the many settlements “created in the Negev Desert” by the JNF.

Rabbi Shlomo Goren, chief chaplain of Israel, told the dinner guests that Israel’s army “is now prepared to repel any attack from Israel’s Arab neighbors. We want peace but bitter experience has taught us that to exist, we must be prepared for war.”
