The first ship of the new Black Star Line, a joint Ghanian-Israeli venture, sailed from the African port of Takoradi today after a colorful ceremony attended by Ghanian Prime Minister Nkrumah and members of his Cabinet and senior government officials.

The Prime Minister boarded the vessel, the S.S. Volta River, where he was welcomed by the captain and officers, most of whom are Israelis. The Prime Minister called this an “historic day for Ghana.”
