Communist newspapers in East Berlin, reflecting the sentiments of the East German Communist government, continued today to attack the West German government for allegedly arming “Israel aggressors.” Leading the attack is the East Berlin newspaper “Neues Deutschland,” official organ of the Communist Party.

The newspapers in West Berlin, however, refrained from publishing comments on Israel’s desire to purchase arms in West Germany. The only exception was the newspaper Tagespiegel, which opposes the sale of German armaments to the Jewish State. The same newspaper also supported West German Minister of Justice Dr. Schaeffer in his request that German restitution payments to Jewish victims of the Nazi regime be curtailed.

(The West German Minister to Amman, Herr J. von Shubert, assured the Jordan Government today that Bonn would not supply Israel with arms, a dispatch from Ammar said. He noted that the West German reparations pact with Israel did not provide for the payment of compensation with war materiel.)
