Ludwig Zind, a high school teacher in Offenburg, was arrested today on charges of libel against the Jews, condoning crimes against humanity, defamation of the memory of the dead and on suspicion of having committed other unnamed crimes.

Zind’s arrest followed nationwide protests by teachers and others against the failure of the Baden-Wuerttemburg authorities to act against the high school teacher who told a Jew that not enough Jews had been gassed in the Nazi death camps. He is also said to have boasted participating in the killing of Jews during the Hitler regime.

The charge of defamation of the memory of the dead was filed against Zind by the Central Council of Jews in Germany.
