With German reparations payments completed with in a few years and American aid diminishing in the near future, “it is the Israel Government’s opinion that the future financing of our development must come from world Jewish sources and from private investments,” Levi Eshkol, Israel Minister of Finance today told a 40-member delegation representing the Israel bond campaign in Europe. Baron Edmond de Rothschild of France heads the group.

The delegation later attended a session of the Knesset and witnessed the presentation of a bill creating a “Garden of Remembrance” in Zichron Yaacov honoring the Baron’s grandfather who helped a number of the early settlements in Palestine weather economic storms. The grave of the late Baron Edmond de Rothschild, whose remains were brought to Israel a few years ago, will be located in the park.
