The Irgun, pre-Israel’s national military underground organization, many of whose members were condemned to death by the British over ten years ago, marched proudly this evening on the main road between Jaffa and this city, commemorating the tenth anniversary of Irgun’s liberation of Jaffa

Led by their commander of ten years ago, Menachem Beigin, the Irgun men–10, 000 strong–participated in a mass rally addressed by Beigin. In his address, Beigin declared that the independence of Israel was achieved through the sacrifices made by Israeli fighters and not by resolutions adopted “by foreign bodies. “

Jacques Soustelles, a member of the French Parliament visiting here, and a former French resistance fighter, told the rally that “the Israel underground, like the French, fought against cruel enemies and won because they believed in freedom and independence.

Tel Aviv Mayor Chaim Levanon also addressed the Irgunists, stating that it was the youth of the Jewish underground that had been responsible for the liberation of Jaffa. After the mass rally, a special meeting of Irgunists was held at Jaffa, where the celebration was continued late into the night,
