Jordan has lodged a protest with United Nations truce chief Maj. Gen. Carl C. von Horn charging that the Israeli guards posted at the Hebrew University and Hadasah Hospital grounds on Mt. Scopus had dug trenches and constructed fortifications on the height, it was reported here today from Amman. This is the third such protest in a week.
Two officials of the Israeli Ministry of Agriculture, kidnapped by Jordanians while they were surveying in the Elath area, were returned to the Israeli authorities today. Jordanian officials turned the two over to United Nations observers at the Mandelbaum Gate who, in turn, escorted them across the Israeli lines.
The Jordan authorities also turned over to Israeli officers at the Mandelbaum Gate the body of an Arab identified as Mohamed Haj Ismael Ibrahim. The Jordanians, claiming that he was an officer of the Israeli Army, arrested him some months ago and sentenced him to a year’s imprisonment for “infiltration.” After serving four months, the Arab was shot dead, supposedly while trying to escape from a prison adjoining no-man’s land in the Jerusalem area.
