The Christian community of Lebanon is in “serious danger” and is “threatened with extinction,” Dr. Emanuel Neumann, president of the Zionist Organization of America, warned here tonight at a meeting of metropolitan area Zionist leaders.
The ZOA leader, linking Lebanon and Israel as the only two Middle East states truly committed to the West through the Eisenhower Doctrine, cautioned that the silence of the West in the face of the “Nasserist-Communist assault on Lebanon” will only increase the peril to that Arab state. “We must act firmly and speak bluntly in the only language that totalitarians like Khrushchev and Nasser understand,” Dr. Neumann said, “and fulfill our commitments to our friends in the Middle East.”
