Mrs. Rose L. Halprin, acting chairman of the New York executive of the Jewish Agency, left today by air for a ten-day visit of major Jewish communities in Brazil and Argentina. She is accompanied by Gedaliah Zakiff, secretary general of the Jewish Agency, Jerusalem.
Mrs. Halprin stated that the purpose of her visit was to discuss with the Zinnist leadership in those countries various proposals for the establishment of a new Zionist financial instrument. The decision to establish such a project which is designed to speed the integration of Israel’s more than 1,000,000 post-statehood immigrants was embodied in a resolution adopted at the recent session of the Zionist Actions Committee in March of this year. The resolution made it clear that the new Zionist financial instrumentality would in no way interfere with the regular Keren Hayesod-United Israel Appeal campaigns and the Israel bond drive, but seek to mobilize funds above and beyond proceeds from these sources.
Pointing to the urgent need for additional funds to avert the dangers and hardships of ‘partial absorption’ of Israel’s newcomers, Mrs. Halprin declared: “I realize that Zionists in the United States and South America are already playing an important role in the United Jewish Appeal and the Keren Hayesod campaigns as well as in the Israel bond drive. However, I am confident that when plans for the new project are ready for implementation they will respond to the call for this supplementary fund as a fitting expression of our continued dedication to the cause of Israel and Zionism during the second decade of Israel’s independence.”
