U.S. Labor Presents $50,000 Gift for William Green Memorial at Haifa

A $50,000 contribution toward the construction of a Histadrut Cultural Center in the city of Haifa to be named after the late William Green, president of the American Federation of Labor, was made today by the William Green Memorial Fund Committee, A $50,000 check was presented on behalf of the committee by George Meany, president of the AFL-CIO, to Ephraim Evron, American representative of the Histadrut executive board.

The William Green Cultural Center is another major Histadrut institution in Israel to be named after a prominent American labor leader. In 1955, Histadrut built the Philip Murray Cultural Center at Eilat, Israel’s southern seaport. The five-story building now in the final stages of construction contains a 500-seat auditorium, a library, reading rooms, classrooms, recreational facilities, and an ultra modern cafeteria.
