Israel Ambassador Abba Eban met today with William Rountree, Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, and later told reporters that a general exchange of views was held on the situation in the Middle East.
Also discussed, said Mr. Eban, were several items of economic and supply cooperation. He did not elaborate. He indicated that Lebanon was discussed. Asked by newsmen about the Israeli position, Mr. Eban said the Israel Government has not made a pronouncement on the Lebanese situation.
