One hundred forged Israel ten-pound notes, apparently printed in Egypt, were confiscated today by Jerusalem police from a United Nations observer recently transferred to Israel from Cairo.
The UN observer, who has the rank of major, cooperated fully with police and told them he bought the banknotes from a friend in Cairo. The existence of the forged notes was discovered when the major gave some of them to an apartment dealer as down payment on a lease. The dealer, feeling there was something peculiar about the paper money, took it to his bank which identified them as forgeries and called the police.
