Yaacov Herzog, Minister of the Israel Embassy in Washington, today told the executive council of the National Community Relations Advisory Council that when President Nasser of the United Arab Republic denounces Israel as a menace” and “creation of imperialism” what he really resents are the limits imposed on his own imperialist ambitions by the very existence of Israel.

Mr. Kerzog said “Col. Nasser’s latest outbursts against Israel confirm the central last that Israel’s deterrent capacity is not only the guarantee for her own safety but also a stabilizing factor for the Middle East in general. It was Col. Nasser’s expansionist policy which started the arms race in the Middle East.

As the dust settles on the latest phase of the continuing Middle Eastern crisis one can perceive a growing international appreciation of Israel’s peaceful intent and inherent stability, Israel must be strengthened promptly in order to be in a position to face up to the perils which will confront her in future phases of the crisis, ” he said.
