Attorney General Rogers said today the Administration was studying legislative proposals covering, “the whole gamut” of civil rights including the mailing of hate literature and bombing of synagogues. He said various proposed measures were under “serious” consideration although ho definite decisions have been taken.
He called increased distribution of hate material an indication of “illness” of “certain people.” He termed synagogue bombings “cowardly” and said all decent Americans were ashamed of them.
Mr. Rogers said the government was not sitting on its hands in the wake of recent school and religious bombings. He pointed out that the FBI has been assisting local authorities in their inquiries. He said the FBI has held 11 conferences with local police on the bombings. He added that 167 more conferences were scheduled before the present program is completed December 12.
