The Jerusalem municipal council has banned taxi stands on the main streets of the city on Sabbath and during Jewish holidays. The action was taken at a meeting of the council last night.
A proposal to allow residents of any side street to bar vehicular traffic on the Sabbath if a majority of the residents sign a petition to this effect, was turned down by the councillors.
