A policeman in the town of Koeppern, a small mountain town in Hesse, has been suspended for making anti-Semitic remarks in a cafe owned by Kurt Sumpf, a Jewish resident of the town. The suspension was announced by the provincial Ministry of Justice.
The policeman, Johann Gallus, assigned to investigate the beating of Sumpf by 13 residents of Koeppern, is alleged to have made anti-Semitic remarks in the cafe. The 13 were subsequently indicted for beating Sumpf and for other attacks on the members of the Sumpf family.
