A dozen Jewish Congressmen and Senators were honored last night at a special consecration and reception for Congressmen of the Jewish faith tendered at Adas Israel Synagogue here. In addition, many non-Jewish members of both Houses attended the service, the first of its kind to be held at the beginning of a session. Special prayers were recited by Rabbi David H. Panitz, rabbi of the synagogue.
Meanwhile, committee assignments for two new Congressmen and a new Senator of the Jewish faith were made known today. Sen. Ernest Gruening of Alaska was assigned to the Senate Committee on Interior, Public Works and Government Operations. Rep. Herman Toll of Pennsylvania was named to the important House Judiciary Committee, while Rep. Samuel Halpern of New York was placed on the House Banking and Currency Committee.
