Israel Foreign Minister Discusses Middle East with French Premier

Mrs. Golda Meir, Israeli Foreign Minister, conferred with the French Prime Minister, Michel Debre, today, They are understood to have discussed the general situation in the Middle East.

The meeting, which was held at M. Debre’s official residence, at the Palais Matignon, lasted a little over a half hour. It was Mrs. Meir’s first meeting with the new Prime Minister, and she stated upon leaving that she was very glad with the opportunity of establishing contact with M. Debre. She was accompanied to the conference by Israel’s Ambassador here, Yaacov Tsur.

Arriving here last night from the United States, where she spent a month addressing Jewish groups chiefly concerned with aiding the United Jewish Appeal and the Israel Bond Campaign, Mrs. Meir declared that she was “satisfied” with American Jewry’s response to the drives. During her brief visit here, Mrs. Meir will help launch the French equivalent of the United Jewish Appeal. An announcement made by the French UJA leadership today said that, in advance of the opening of their campaign, a French woman who prefers to remain anonymous has contributed 20, 000, 000 francs.
