The President of the Federal Republic of Germany has given assurances to the American Jewish Committee that he will call a conference of Ministers of Education to take up the problem of anti-Semitism in Germany as “one of the chief subjects of its deliberations.”
The German President, Theodor Heuss, declared: “As far as I can judge, the young people of Germany are but slightly interested in the events of recent decades which they have known only as children. It is our task to inculcate within them a spirit of equal respect for all men as fellow human beings regardless of race or religion.”
The American Jewish Committee, concerned over recent outbreaks and incidents of anti-Semitism in Germany, delegated the head of its European office, Zachariah Shuster, to meet with President Heuss and other German officials and political leaders. Mr. Shuster, who arrived in this country yesterday, had an hour-long comprehensive interview with President Heuss on the problem of anti-Semitism.
