A home for veterans of the Jewish Legion–a volunteer unit of Jewish soldiers fighting on the side of the British in World War I–was dedicated at Avichail, the ex-Legionnaires village near Nathanya, last night. American and Canadian ex-Legionnaires financed the construction of the home.
A number of American Canadian and Australian members of the Jewish Legion and the King’s Fusiliers–all former comrades in arms–joined Israel veterans of World War I at a reunion at Avichail. One of the latter is Itzhak Ben Zvi–a private in the Jewish Legion, now President of Israel.
The new veterans home includes a museum of World War I weapons, a library, and a memorial chapel.
