There is no serious threat of anti-Semitism in Britain, R.N. Carvalho, president of the Anglo-Jewish Association, stated at a meeting of the Association’s council here tonight.
Mr. Carvalho disagreed with some British Jews who, he said, “discuss the problem as though there was really serious anti-Semitism.” “Is it wise,” he asked, “to rake up trouble, real or imaginary, when anti-Jewish feeling is so low?”
Mr. Carvalho also took issue with some who insist that no synagogues should be built in expanding suburbs, holding that the money should, instead, be sent to Israel. “The future, ” he said, “would be more endangered if there were no synagogues in the new suburban areas, to which large number of Jews have moved, and where the patients want their children to receive Hebrew education. “
