An Arab League effort to force the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) to reject Israel’s application on threat of an economic boycott apparently had failed today. The GATT committee which is examining Israel’s application for temporary membership, pending action by the GATT General Council next year, was expected to give a favorable report within a few days.

The Arab League circulated a memorandum Saturday to the 34 member delegations stressing the importance economically of the Arab countries and warning that acceptance of Israel would rule out Arab nation collaboration with GATT. The Arab League communication contained the typical anti-Israel propaganda and was reported to have been received coldly by the delegates.
