Only 324 Jewish Immigrants Entered Canada During Three Months

A total of 16,955 immigrants entered Canada during the first three months of 1959, including 324 Jews, according to figures issued here today by Department of Citizenship and Immigration. Over-all immigration during the period was lower than in the comparable period of 1958, when the total of immigrants was 21,243, including 465 Jews.

Among the Jewish immigrants during this year’s first three months were 125 from Israel, as compared to 148 who entered Canada from Israel during the first three months of last year. A total of 1,877 immigrants were aided here in 1958 by the Jewish Vocational Service of Montreal, according to a report made public today. In April of this year, 33 new immigrants were aided in obtaining employment here, the report showed.
