540 American Jewish Youths Leaving for Israel Summer Studies

A total of 540 American Jewish youths of high school and college age are leaving for Israel this week to take part in the Jewish Agency’s Israel Summer Institute, it was announced here today by Mr. Avraham Schenker, deputy member of the Jewish Agency executive. The Israel Summer Institute is a nonprofit educational project, sponsored by the Youth and Chalutziut Department of the Jewish Agency.

The American members of the Institute, who will spend six weeks in Israel, are divided into two groups: juniors between 15 and 17 years of age and seniors of 18 years and above. The junior groups include members of B’nai B’rith Youth Organization, United Synagogue Youth, National Federation of Temple Youth, Joung Judaea, Yeshiva University Youth Bureau, Canadian Young Judaea and a group sponsored by the YMHA of New York City. Among the seniors are members of Mizrachi Hatzair, the Student Zionist Organization, the B’nai B’rith Hilel Foundations, Young Judaean leaders, Junior Hadassah, and a substantial number of non-affiliated young people.
