Israel Signs $3, 500, 000 Pact for Expansion of Haifa Port Facilities

A $3,500, 000 contract to expand Haifa port facilities was signed today by the Israel Ministry of Transport and a partnership of a French and Israel firms. The firms are the Societe Dunkerquoise d’Enterprises and the Gut-Arpad contracting firm of Tel Aviv.

The principal feature of the expansion will be the extension of Haifa’s main pier to increase the port’s dry cargo handling capacity from 2, 000, 000 to 2,500, 000 tons. The work is expected to be finished in 18 months. The Ministry also announced a contract will be signed soon to the American Company, Friedrich Harris, for planning a new harbor at Ashdot.
