Announcement was made here today that the cornerstone will be laid this month for the reconstruction of the famous, old Rashi Synagogue, which was destroyed by Nazis during the Crystal Night in November of 1938, when Jewish houses of worship were burned down.
The Rashi synagogue, built by the same artisans who had erected the Worms Cathedral, dated back to the Twelfth Century. The reconstructed synagogue will be built in accordance with the style in which the original had been designed. This city now has only two Jews residing here. Prior to the Hitler era, the Jewish population of Worms totalled 1,100.
