Jean Benoit-Levy, one of the world’s outstanding authors and producers of educational and documentary films, died here yesterday. He was 71 years old.
One of his full-length films, “La Maternelle, ” which attracted world-wide attention, was also shown in Germany under the Nazis. When the Germans omitted the “Levy” from his name and advertized the film as directed by “Jean Benoit, ” he threatened suit and forced the complete billing of his name. His family had lived in France for 200 years under that name.
