Israel’s Knesset, Israel Parliament, last night defeated a bill that would have forbidden women to wear shorts in public or to wear blouses “leaving the back uncovered.”

The measure was introduced by S. Y. Gross, a member of Parliament representing the religious Agudath Israel. Acting Minister of Justice Peretz Naphtali, opposing the bill on behalf of the Government, told the House that the matter of women’s dress is one of personal taste and that “exposure that offends public morals is forbidden now by the existing criminal code.”
