An impassioned plea to the Communist leaders in Rumania to intervene with the Bucharest Government for the renewal of Jewish emigration to Israel, in order to reunite families torn apart, was cabled today by the Rumanian Settlers Association. The appeal was addressed to Gheorghu Dej, secretary general of the ruling Rumanian Workers Party.
The decision to send such an appeal was taken at a public meeting held in Tel Aviv under the auspices of the Association. Present at the meeting were young men and women in Israel less than one year, separated from their spouses who were to follow them but were prevented from doing so after the sudden stoppage of Jewish emigration from Rumania, Speakers at the meeting urged the audience not to give up hope that the personal tragedies of separated families would be solved.
