The 350-year-old Jewish cemetery in Fuerth, one of the oldest in Germany, will be renovated by the local municipality, it was announced here today.
Local historians are hoping to discover the grave of Joseph Oppenheimer, called “Jud Suess,” the court financier of Wurttemberg who was executed in 1738 by anti-Jewish protagonists and believed to be buried in the cemetery.
At the same time it was learned here that the Municipal Council of Borken, in the Rhineland, had allocated funds for the upkeep of two Jewish cemeteries in that city.
