Professor Carlo Schmidt, West German Social Democrat leader and deputy speaker of the Bundestag last night delivered the first lecture to be given by a German in German language at the Hebrew University since the second World War. He is touring Israel as a guest of the Israel Purchasing Mission in Cologne.
Discoursing on the evolution of European culture, Professor Schmidt stressed the contributions of Jews to the development of the European spirit and declared that Israel’s establishment is among the most significant vindications of that spirit.
