Rep. Jacob H. Gilbert, a new United States Congressman of the Jewish faith, today began duties as a Democratic member of the House of Representatives from New York.Rep. Gilbert was elected on March 8 to finish the term of Isidore Dollinger who resigned from Congress to become the Bronx District Attorney,

Rep. Gilbert, who served in Albany, as a State Senator, announced that he would work for civil rights and other liberal causes in Washington, He was introduced to the House by Rep. Emanuel Celler, New York Democrat, and was sworn in by Speaker of the House Sam Rayburn of Texas.
