Jewish community representatives from all over Canada set a goal of $6, 000, 000 to be reached this year in fund raising on behalf of the United Israel Appeal and United Jewish Relief Agencies. The fixing of this record objective came at the conclusion of a national conference held in Montreal under the auspices of the National Fund Raising Council for Israel and Overseas. Community commitments totaling $4, 824, 570 were pledged toward the $6, 000, 000 objective. These pledges represent an average increase of 25 percent over last year.

The conference, attended by 150 delegates from 80 Jewish communities in Canada, was under the Joint chairmanship of Lawrence Freiman, Ottawa, president of the Zionist Organization of Canada and Samuel Bronfman, Montreal, president of the Canadian Jewish Congress.
