The DAIA, central Jewish representative body, today handed over to Argentine authorities a statue of General San Martin to be shipped to Ramat Gan, a suburb of Tel Aviv where it will be erected. The statue is Argentine Jewry’s symbolic participation in the celebration of the 150th anniversary of Argentine independence which will take place in May.

Speakers at the transmission ceremony included Alfredo Vitolo, Minister of the Interior and chairman of the anniversary committee, and Nathan Lerner, DAIA vice-president. Mordechai Avida, Minister of the Israel Embassy and Prof. Cruz Ripoda, a member of the San Martin Institute, also spoke.
