The Ministry of Transport rejected today a suggestion by the Kaiser-Frazer company of Haifa that importation of cars be banned. The Kaiser-Frazer plant is beginning to assemble Studebaker small cars and sought the ban to protect the domestic auto production industry.
The Ministry contended that present import duties give sufficient protection to Israel’s infant auto industry and at the same time announced it was lifting a ban on the import of motor scooters.
