Dr. Alfredo Vitolo, Argentine Minister of the Interior, has agreed to facilitate the immediate admission of 100 Jewish families from Eastern Europe to join families in Argentina.
The announcement was made following a meeting with the Minister by James P. Rice, executive director of United Hias Service; Israel G. Jacobson, director of Hias Latin American operations; Dr. Isaac Tolchinsky, president of the Argentine Society for help to Jewish Immigrants; and Jewish and Argentine officials.
Dr. Vitolo said his action was in confirmation of a promise to Dr. Nahum Goldmann, president of the World Jewish Congress, on the occasion of Dr. Goldmann’s recent visit on the 100th anniversary of the Argentine Jewish community. Mr. Rice, acting to follow up the agreement, went to Europe to implement it as well as similar ones worked out by Hias representatives in Brazil, Chile and Uruguay.
