Dr. Israel Goldstein was the recipient of the annual award for distinguished service to American Jewry at the closing session tonight of the annual convention of the National Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs. In accepting the award, Dr. Goldstein said:
“On the American scene, the religious aspect of Jewish life is, as it should be, the foremost commitment of the Jewish community and its foremost credential in the eyes of the non-Jewish community. Our religious leadership, therefore, has a right and a responsibility to exercise a role commensurate with its status and to exercise that role in every constructive direction, beginning with its own immediate premises, the Synagogue; but , far from ending there, extending to every area where religious representation of the Jewish community is germane, both here and abroad.”
